Over the past few weeks, Southeast Asia faced one of its worst flood seasons in decades. Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, and Viet Nam were hit by relentless storms and landslides. Entire communities were submerged, schools turned into shelters, and roads vanished under water.
The human toll is staggering: over 1,250 confirmed deaths, hundreds missing, and millions displaced. In Indonesia alone, 604 lives lost and 1.5 million affected. These numbers represent families, businesses, and futures disrupted.

Floods Fueled by Climate Change
Experts point to a clear link between climate change and extreme weather. Warmer oceans and a hotter atmosphere fueled three overlapping systems - Cyclone Senyar, Cyclone Ditwah, and Typhoon Koto - combined with an intensified monsoon. In Viet Nam, rainfall reached 1,739 mm in 24 hours, a potential record.
Deforestation and weak flood defenses worsened the impact, turning heavy rain into a humanitarian crisis.
Beyond the Headlines
The economic cost exceeds $20 billion, with crops destroyed, factories halted, and supply chains disrupted. For businesses, this is a warning: climate volatility is reshaping global trade and production.
